Barbara and I hit the road again. Off too Texas! This was more of a food trip than a car show trip. We stayed in Beaumont, TX, right across the street from Papadeaux’s Seafood Restaurant.
We walked across the street to get our dinner. We both had so much food, the to-go boxes had enough food for a great brunch! With a Noon check out time, we took our time leaving for Houston, about 1 hour 15 min. The Show opened at Noon, and since it was a weekday, there was not a lot of people.
As I said, the food was the star of the trip. This years show, pandemics and chip shortages, really took a toll on the quality of the show. This was the 4th or 5th time (or more) we had attended this show. There are usually 25 or more, auto companies from all over the world. This year, there were only 10 or 12 brands, or less, at the auto show. The usual glitz and glamor with beautiful presentations was missing.
Cadillac had only four (4) cars. All 4 were borrowed from recent buyer’s so they could be represented at the show. No new cars, no CTS-V, no Escalade or CT6. There was no BMW’s, Porsche’s or Mercedes at this show. I may have missed the Buick and Lincoln cars.
I fell in love with the 2022 Ram 1500 4×4 Longhorn Southfork edition truck. Right now, only available in Texas, but may be nationwide later this year. I may have a new #1 vehicle in my future (or dreams).
Chrysler Corp. cars were well represented, but no Fiat’s. I may be the only person who missed them:> Jeep always has the best presentation of the show, and this year was great, as usual.
The car show normally takes up ALL of the NRG expo hall. This year, they had 1/2 the hall. The other half was occupied by the Houston Boat Show. They were so packed in on their side, they could have easily used the whole arena.
All things considered, we had a nice time. Did you know, my 1st real date with Barbara, I took her too a Car Show! I knew she was my type woman when a demo man asked me, “Would you like to get in?” and Barbara jumped into the driver’s seat!
I really want to drive that Ram 1500 4X4 Longhorn Southfork truck. They also have a Ram 1500 Limited 10th Anniversary Edition 4×4 that is almost as nice.
On the way home, we stopped in Lake Charles, LA an had a big dinner at Steamboat Bill’s Seafood Restaurant super Cajun food! Right next to I-10.
We had. an excellent trip.
